The 'Clearblue' Innovation Centre
For several years, Ian has been helping his client ‘Swiss Precision Diagnostics’, (SPD, jointly owned by Alere and Proctor & Gamble) to reorganise, redesign and refurbish parts of their Bedford HQ building.
Ian’s brief was to deliver an efficient workplace for the client’s growing operations ~ creating a new environment for 120 staff, including offices, laboratories, reception, meeting and cafe areas. The project has also been about projecting brand identity and values. The company, who are behind Clear Blue and Persona brands of women’s’ healthcare products, define these as ‘clean, natural, innovative and creative’.
The Bedford HQ has been SPD rebranded as the Clearblue Innovation Centre.
Working with Gerald Eve LLP, and cost consultants Press & Starkey, the project involved carrying out major feasibility studies regarding the client’s accommodation needs, which included considering relocation to smaller 35,000 sq.ft premises. SPD decided to stay where they were and under take the phased re-organisation and re-furbishment of the 60,000 sq.ft. building. This lead to Ian and SPD’s management team working closely on a ‘master-plan’ to gradually transform the site.
“ Ian has taken the time to understand our business, our people and our needs, to the point that he can anticipate our requirements almost better than we can”.
Simon Alaluf, Finance Director of SPD Development Company.
'trees super-graphic'
We were keen to emphasis aspects of the Clearblue brand where ever we were able to within the interior spaces. In the central atrium we created two 8 metre tall ‘super-graphics’ of overlapping tree silhouettes, playing with the ‘Clean, Natural, Innovative & Creative’ core brand values.
bespoke ‘meadow’ carpet by Ege carpets
We used a bespoke broadloom carpet by Ege to give the R&D areas the ‘quirky, creative, soft & natural’ feel, that our client was seeking. Ege were able to follow our design to emulate a ‘mown path’ which picked out the main circulation routes through the workspace.
Pebble carpet tiles by Ege
We continued the ‘quirky, natural’ imagery theme in the staff cafe areas. with carpet tiles suggesting a pebbles & a pond.
