The British Council Hong Kong
The British Council occupies 80,000 sq. ft. on 6 floors of the British Consulate building in Hong Kong. Designed by Terry Farrell & Partners. It comprises a gallery / exhibition hall, an information centre, 32 classroom Teaching Centre, offices & ancillary facilities for 200 staff.
Whilst still working ‘in-house’ as Head of Architecture & Design at the British Council, Ian was responsible for the planning and interior design of the premises which opened in 1997.
In 2002 after he had joined Amalgam he was commissioned to undertake a feasibility study and prepare concept design for additional conference / information facilities along with a new centre for teaching young children. That concept design was subsequently implemented by D&B company M.Moser. Associates
“The new building has created tremendous opportunities for us to deliver our services far more effectively and to a much higher standard. In itself it is a great advert for the best of contemporary Britain.”
