A 'branded environment' in Berlin
When Ian was commissioned to design the new British Council HQ in Germany, he invited Redpath to collaborate and develop a set of ‘branded’ materials that included banners, posters, mouse matts, screensaver, and events materials.
The office was designed to encourage flexible working. There are no cellular offices or allocated desks, staff can choose their preferred work setting to suit their task. At the heart of the scheme is the ‘treffpunkt’, a business lounge, which acts as the hub of the office.
As well as accommodation for the 30 Berlin staff, there is a quiet study area, a conference suite and drop-in / networking facilities for BC staff and partners from across Europe. The introduction of the new working methods helped to enable the British Council to reduce its space requirements from 21,500 to 6,500 sq.ft. substantially reducing running costs.
"All three of the offices Ian has designed for me have been recognised by colleagues, customers and stakeholders alike as really exceptional - all three have facilitated effective team working, supported excellent customer service and created exactly the right profile and image for the British Council." Michael Bird. OBE. Regional Director SE Europe, British Council.
